… Some Favourite Artists

As someone who loves to paint… I also love seeing the art of others… especially contemporaries. My taste is varied and so I’ll show you the range of art and artists and describe a little of why I love their work.

The first are works by Bobbie Burgers... great name :)

I love her explosion of colours and vibrancy. It also has a very textural quality almost impasto. She is quite prolific and incredibly collectable.

The next I just love are the works of Clair Basler, a French artist whose touch is quite exquisite. Here's a sample.

Now Clair's work is quite exquisite and almost ethereal. You can see the execution is quite different to Bobbi's.

These works really speak for themselves.

Now for something completely different... not really a contemporary - and that the huge body of work from Grace Cossington Smith. She died in 1984 after pioneering post impressionism in this country. You'll see how different this work is from the other two.

I'm also seeing what attracts me to all three artists. Life! Vibrancy! Originality!

More of my favourite artists to come in future blogs!

Spring in Healesville

Hi again...

Spring in the Valley  - that’s the Yarra Valley northeast of Melbourne - can be warm one minute and pretty dam cold the next. We’re it's a  ‘next’ moment today. It has been the most variable - yet overall - the coldest winter we’ve experienced since we moved here 6 years ago.

And still - because we're semi rural - the valley seems to burst into bloom all at once. Old fashioned gardens where they haven't yet caught up with minimalism; the acres of commercial fruit trees everywhere; and of course the escapees - wild plums and cherries everywhere. Not to mention every valley and hillside festooned in golden wattle.

So yesterday I went out with my trusty iPhone to take in some of the beauty we are blessed with here.

These photos I took in a street 5 minutes walk from our house. It’s wildly magnolia blossom time – and oh my – what a sight they are right now…

And camellias... hedges of them!

I'll keep you up to date with others as they appear...

What fun!

Lovely Surprise

While I was helping Jacqueline – my teacher out at her textured art mini program, she asked me to give her a testimonial for launching her program in the USA.

I was quite honoured to be asked and whatsmore, she asked me to bring in some of my paintings.

Here’s the result.

What fun!
